General Care Instructions

  • Pre-wash your nappies. It can take up to 10 washes for some fabrics to be at their full absorbency (most will be okay after 2 washes though).

  • Scrape any solid waste off the nappy into the toilet or flush the liner (liners with no solid waste can be washed with your nappies and reused).

  • If you have a nappy with velcro, fold back the laundry tabs to protect it from picking up bits and pieces in the wash. Every now and then you may want to quick unpick any fluff out of the Velcro on your nappies. Makes a huge difference when you take the time to do so.

  • Remove boosters from the outer.

  • Dry pail your soiled nappies in a bucket with a lockable lid (no soaking necessary). We warn against popping any liquid in your bucket at all as this could be a safety hazard with small children.

  • If you notice the nappies have a strong ammonia smell (which can happen occasionally), rinse the nappies before placing them in the bucket so they aren’t soaking in urine for too long.

  • Every 2 days, do a cold water machine pre-rinse with no detergent (so you aren’t washing your nappies in dirty water) followed by a standard cold, warm or hot cycle. Do not exceed 60° C.

  • Use only ¼ of the amount of detergent that is normally recommended for a full load. Powder generally is preferable to liquid.

  • Line drying is always best for nappies as the sun is fabulous for killing bacteria and fading stains (you won’t believe your eyes!). The sun works as a steriliser which makes a cleaner nappy to put on your babe. Sun drying is best for the elastic and PUL too.

  • If you have to use a dryer, tumble dry boosters only on a low heat. Keep in mind though that they will eventually effect the elastic and PUL and therefore decrease the longevity of your nappy.

  • DO NOT use any bleach, Napisan, enzyme cleaners, fabric softeners or any other chemicals!

  • Most importantly! Make sure you treat yourself every so often with all the money you have saved by not buying disposables! You have our permission.
